Lee Jungjin (b.1961) is a photographer who, through creative musings on landscapes and things in general, shows a wholly distinctive approach to the expression of the essential abstractness and surrealism in her subjects. In the 1980s, under the influence of Robert Frank in New York, she created a photographic world of her own, which served as an entry point to documentary work in Korea. Her innovative photographic work with “Korean Paper Prints” resulted from her ongoing pursuit of and experimentation with various materials. More than reproductions of reality or reconstructions of the momentary beauty of lifeless landscapes, deserts, seas, and objects, the images connect with the artist's inner metaphor, coming as a whisper of an existence beyond time and place. This book consists of 75 selections from Lees portfolio, ranging from the early 80s up to recent times, revealing her evolving world of photography.
