Simmani

Simmani is a rare documentary project by artist Jungjin Lee, who is internationally active and based in New York. This work began during her time as a photojournalist at the Prurigipeunnamu publishing company. In Simmani, Jungjin Lee documents a year spent with an elderly herbalist couple she met by chance 35 years ago on Ulleungdo Island. Originally exhibited and published in 1988 under the title Faraway Island, Secluded House, the series has been reimagined 33 years later and re-released as Simmani. The final pages include an essay where the artist reflects on her experiences and emotions from that period.
