Verde brings together the documentary work of Federico Ríos photographing the FARC guerrillas in the mountains of Colombia in their transition to disarmament as a result of the Havana peace agreement. When the photojournalist began this project he had one question: who were the FARC? Since the signing of the peace agreement, the photographer recorded the transformation of these guerrillas to civilian life, documenting the daily life in the jungles of Colombia, recording the marches, the tensions, the loves, the misunderstandings associated with the abandonment of weapons and reflecting some of the doubts that arose with the transition of these groups towards peace.
Verde gathers in more than 350 photographs taken between 2010 and 2020 the testimony of a historic era for Colombia. The book's design by Sebastián López, with its indented images and green earth tone, is intended to generate an immersion in the Colombian jungles and recreate an extensive journey through the territory, accompanying the different FARC groups in their transition process towards peace.
The book is intended as a visual testimony of the end of the war. Its pages speak of history from the everyday and express the physical presence of the territory with the presence of an imposing printed block in terms of image. In it one can see and feel the weight of memory and the need to tell stage by stage, from the place of the facts, how the end of a war is lived. The map on the cover, which is part of this journey, was made by Estefanía González. All the camps and places where the photos were taken are recorded there. The book was printed in Manizales at Matiz Taller Editorial. It includes a prologue written by Alejandro Gaviria that speaks of the historical value of Federico Ríos' images.
