Beach Therapy

Beach Therapy is a body of work Martin Parr put together in the mid 2010s. All of the photographs come out of Parr’s experimentation with a telephoto lens that he writes “has been somewhat shunned by the art world (with the honourable exception of Beat Strueli).” That’s never seemed to keep Parr from making work though.The photographs draw you in, they zoom you out. Parr plays with different layers of perspective at times directing our attention to a fern or a seagull in the foreground —all in character with Parr's humor. Other times we see the entire scene marinating in sun bathers and umbrellas.
