La Partida

Amidst a change in administration in Mexico in 2019, La partida* visually recounts the experience of a Mexican-Cuban couple as they navigate the application for a Family Unity Visa towards residency in Mexico. Through constructed photography, documents and screenshots, the reader can piece together fragments of this bureaucratic adventure fraught with technological failures, corruption and transnational love.
The book was designed based on the structure of a dominoes match that has already been played: 28 tiles equivalent to 28 book spreads, each in correspondence with the preceding and subsequent spread (e.g. 2:2, 2:1, 1:6, 6:5, 5:5).
